At Globy, your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, protect, and disclose your information when you use our mobile application and services. By using Globy, you agree to the terms of this policy.
1. Information We Collect and How We Process It
We collect both personal information and non-personal information to enhance your experience, connect you with activities, and ensure safety.
a. Personal Information
- Contact information (e.g., name, email, birthday, gender).
- Profile details (e.g., bio, interests).
- Profile photos and user-generated content (e.g., activity descriptions, chat messages).
Users may upload profile pictures and activity photos. We use automated tools for content moderation to detect inappropriate content. These images are processed by third-party services for moderation and storage.
b. Location Data
Why We Collect Location Data: We collect your real-time location (with permission) to display nearby activities on the map, facilitate check-ins, and suggest relevant meetups based on your city or country.
Activity Discovery and Sharing: Your profile may appear to other users in nearby activities you've joined. Your exact location is never shared directly; instead, we use approximate locations for discovery. For activities, the general area is public so others can find and join them. Precise meeting points are discussed in chats, visible only to participants.
Privacy Controls:
- Turn location sharing on/off in app settings or device permissions.
- Choose to share location only during active app use.
- Make activities private, so only approved users can join and see details.
It is your responsibility to manage these settings. In remote areas, approximate locations may still allow inference of your general whereabouts. By using Globy, you acknowledge this.
c. Messaging and User-Generated Content
- Chat conversations between activity participants.
- Activity creation details, participation history, and reviews/ratings of hosts.
Chats are stored for your convenience but can be deleted by you.
d. Gamification and Analytics Data
- Participation data like activities joined/created, XP points, badges, levels, and challenge completions.
- With your consent, product-use events such as screens viewed, onboarding progress, activity actions, messages sent, and purchase results.
- Analytics identifiers and technical data, including your Globy account ID after sign-in, a Mixpanel device ID, app version, operating system version, and device model.
We use Mixpanel for optional product analytics. Analytics is off until you allow it. You can turn it off at any time in Globy Settings. We do not send message text, profile text, photos, email addresses, or precise locations to Mixpanel. We also disable IP-based location enrichment in the Mixpanel mobile SDK.
We do not use analytics data for advertising or to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. We do not collect sensitive personal information unless you voluntarily share it for an app feature.
2. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR Compliance)
For EU users under GDPR, we process data based on:
- Contractual necessity: to provide services like activity matching and chatting.
- Legitimate interests: to improve the app and ensure security.
- Consent: for optional product analytics and features like location sharing or push notifications.
You can withdraw consent anytime via settings. Contact us to exercise rights like access or deletion.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:
- Connect you with solo travelers and locals via activities and profiles.
- Enable in-app messaging, push notifications for updates, and gamification rewards.
- Facilitate real-life meetups safely, including content moderation and reporting.
- Generate insights for app improvements and personalized suggestions.

b. With Other Users

c. Legal Compliance and Safety
- For law enforcement, subpoenas, or emergencies (e.g., safety risks from meetups).
- To enforce terms, investigate reports, or prevent harm.
d. Business Transfers
If Globy is acquired, data may transfer under this policy. We don't sell your data.
5. User Rights (GDPR & Global Privacy Laws)
You have rights like access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and portability. For CCPA (California): rights to know, delete, opt-out (we don't sell data). Exercise via app settings or email [email protected]. We'll respond within legal timelines.
6. Data Retention

- Chats/activity history: 1 year post-activity, or sooner if deleted.
- Location: Temporary for sessions; historical for matching.
- Analytics: Up to 12 months after collection, then deleted or aggregated.
We delete/anonymize after needs, retaining for legal reasons if required.
